The PIA executives conducted their annual visit to Washington DC between 23-26 November 2014.
The PIA executives conducted their annual visit to Washington DC between 23-26 November 2014. Meetings included a number of high level interactions from the Bretton Woods and other US based institutions including Ms Lagarde (Managing Director, IMF); Dr Shah (Administrator, USAID); Dr Kim (President, World Bank Group); Mr Cai (Executive Vice President and CEO, IFC); Mrs Hyde (CEO, Millennium Challenge Corporation); and Mrs Littlefield (President and CEO, Overseas Private Investment Corporation).
There was constructive dialogue on a number of key themes including the US Power Africa initiative, the West African Ebola virus disease outbreak, infrastructure development, agriculture and leadership development on the African continent. The PIA was encouraged by the warm and open reception from the institutions, who expressed their willingness to increase engagement with the PIA as a key representative of the private sector in Africa and to continue to find practical ways of ongoing collaboration.
Going forward, the PIA will, amongst other things, include the various institutions such as the MCC, IFC and the World Bank in country visits and in more regular "on the ground" dialogue.
